Bio

Josefine Weber Hansen is a Copenhagen-based composer, singer, and performer whose work bridges classical traditions with contemporary experimentation. With a background in both voice and viola, she crafts music that explores the range of expression between voice and instrument, interdisciplinary storytelling, and collective creation.

Josefine holds a Master’s degree in voice from The Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM), where she studied with Helene Gjerris. Her studies also took her to the Eastman School of Music in the U.S., as well as a Bachelor’s in both voice and viola from RDAM. Her talent has been recognized with awards such as Léonie Sonning Talent Prize 2025, the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Talent Prize (2021) and the Copenhagen Odd Fellow Lodges’ Music Prize (2018).

A passionate advocate for collaborative and inclusive music-making, Josefine is a member of Damkapellet, a music collective dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in classical and contemporary music. She is also a founding member of Kunstnerkollektivet Venteværelset, an experimental opera company that reimagines the operatic experience through genre hybrids, baroque influences, and immersive performances.

Her compositions often weave together voice, strings, and theatrical elements. Recent works include Rosenaltaret (2025), a voice & viola piece set to the poetry of Edith Södergran, and IMPRESSIONS FROM A TRIP TO POMPEII (2025), written for Danish chamber ensemble Esbjerg Ensemble.

Beyond her artistic practice, Josefine is experienced in project leadership and concert production, actively shaping the future of performance and composition through her creative and organizational work.
